Following in my father’s footsteps, I’m a second-generation Financial Services representative with 30 years of experience. Despite being paralyzed in a car accident in 1977 at the age of 42, my father resumed his business just a few years after going through an extensive recovery and many surgeries. He was still able to support our family and inspired me to join the industry at an early age. He was a role model to many, sending all five of us kids to college, never missing a game or event for any of us. He also ended up authoring a book called “Hidden Handicaps”. An interesting side note is that he had help writing that book along with a written forward from Bob Costas the famed sports castor.
Our family includes my two brothers, two sisters, and my mother, Lynda, who was very accomplished herself. She had five different degrees including a RN nursing degree and was the head nurse on the first open heart surgery in Fargo, ND in the 60’s. I have two sons, Davian and Darick, and I had the great pleasure of coaching their youth football teams for six years.
I’m currently in a very committed relationship with Lisa, a Licensed Psychotherapist. We reconnected five years ago after one of our high school reunions and have since built a nice little blended family. Fun fact, she was my very first crush in 3rd grade where we used to walk to school every day together in those early years. Lisa has a son and two stepsons from her first marriage, which ended sadly with her husband’s passing away from cancer about 16 years ago. We share homes in Fargo, ND and Clermont, Florida, co-own several businesses, and have two dogs, Duke and Louie. Lisa’s youngest son, Tyler, is studying acting, and her stepsons, Andrew and Logan, have their own families. Logan served in Army Intelligence and is now in the Reserves and lives in Germany. Andrew and his family live in Florida.
I enjoy traveling, snow skiing, water skiing, wake surfing, golfing, exercising and going for walks with my family.
Over the last thirty years I have consistently won many awards and benchmarks in my industry as a top tier producer, too many to list and or remember. Although I am proud of all those awards, they were all about personal monetary production. In my opinion, the real award was and is helping protect hundreds of individual clients and five hundred or more families through my group benefit business. My family history mentioned below will help you understand why that is so important to me.
I started and chaired the Small Business Rx Alliance (SBRx Alliance) Group in Fargo, ND from 2014 to 2019. It unfortunately ended due to Covid 19 in 2019, but I hope to reinstate it soon. The group was started to form an alliance between Bankers, Lawyers, Financial Services, Accounting Services, IT Services, Advertising Services, Small Business Owner Mentoring Services, etc. The mission was to help other business owners who needed help in those areas,
through educational workshops, radio, private consultations etc.
MSUM Athletic Fund-Raising Committee (2014 -2018) Scholarships in the name of former MSUM head football coach, Ross Fortier. Recruited donations from local businesses and alumni to provide athletic.
scholarships to MSUM Dragon football players.
I have been a guest speaker on local radio spots, many SBRX Alliance Workshops and other Business Workshops to discuss Pensions and Group Benefits to Business Owners and or their
HR personnel.
I specialize in working with High-Net-Worth individuals, business owners and retirees. I have been designing, implementing and administering group benefits plans, pension plans and retirement plans for the last 30 years on my own and through my company: Custom Insurance and Retirement Solutions Agency, also known as CIRSA.
In high school I was a very active kid in sports. I ran varsity track and field my freshmen through senior year and lettered each year. I qualified for the state meet every year and placed more times than not in the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and sprint relays.
I played basketball at the varsity level for two years and was honored to have played on our state championship team in 1985. In football I was a three-year starter on the varsity team and named to the all-conference team my junior and senior years. Our team was runner-up in the state championship my senior year and I was named to the all-state team as well that year.
In college, I attended North Dakota State University NDSU (The Bison) on a scholarship in the 1987/88 season where I redshirted. I then transferred to Minnesota State University of Moorhead MSUM (The Dragons) 88,89,90,91 on scholarship where I started for the next four years as a free safety and kick returner. I was named all-conference my junior and senior seasons and I received honorable mention All American status as a senior. During those four years, our team went deep into the national playoffs three of four years and was conference champion those same three years. During my senior season, (1991) we lost to that year’s national champion in the national semifinals, one game away from the big show. That was a tough loss but still a great group accomplishment.
I was honored to be asked to give the acceptance speech for our 1991 Dragon football team’s
induction to the MSUM Sports Hall of Fame in 2015
“SUCCESS”
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”
